Alberobello, a little town in the region of Apulia, famous for its Trulli!

The Trulli are buildings with a conical roof typical of the Apulian tradition, and in particular the area of the Murge and Valle d’Itria.
The name Trulli derives from the late Greek “τρούλος” or “dome” and indicates ancient conical constructions in dry stone of prehistoric origin.

Trulli generally were constructed as temporary field huts or as permanent residences by small proprietors or farmers.

Depending on the area, the building material used could be either hard limestone or calcareous tufa.

Thanks to their uniqueness, the trulli of Alberobello have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996.
Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, a large number of these historical dwellings have been restored and converted into second homes or self-catering cottages and, nowadays, Alberobello is a tourist destination famous all over the World!
